Friends of Cromford Canal work parties:
8th March: working at Buttterley Reservoir, the FCC work party removed a large amount of reed from the channels allow improvement to water flow.
10 volunteers, 55.25 volunteer hours including travel
29th March: Codnor Park Reservoir, a working party of 5 FCC volunteers replaced damaged fencing, including 3 posts, 1 top rail near the overspill and 8 fence posts at the car park.
5 volunteers, 26.5 volunteer hours including travel.
24th May: Ironville at the King William bridge, FCC volunteers cleared a large amount of vegetation in the channel
9 volunteers, 54.5 volunteer hours including travel.
31st May: Moorgreen Reservoir, FCC work party cleared the vee gullies to allow water level gauges to be inspected. A very long walk from the car park.
12 volunteers, 67.75 volunteer hours including travel.
7th June, Codnor Park Reservoir, a small group of FCC volunteers repaired damaged fencing along the angling section.
3 volunteers, 20.25 volunteer hours including travel.
19th June: Codnor Park Reservoir, work party volunteers cleared a tree which had fallen across the footpath near the steel bridge at the Golden Valley end of the angling section.
2 volunteers, 4.5 hours including travel.
19th July: Ironville work party volunteers cleared a large amount of Himalayan Balsam.
6 volunteers, 32.75 volunteer hours including travel.
26th July: Lower Hartshay, the work party volunteers cleared a large amount of Himalayan Balsam from the C&RT section at the steps leading to the A610 road.
10 volunteers, 59.5 volunteer hours including travel.
16th August: Codnor Park Reservoir, a work party removed a large amount of Himalayan Balsam on the abandoned section on the angling section.
4 volunteers, 12 hours.
23th August; Codnor Park Reservoir, removed vegetation from around the memorial seats on the angling section and the other side of the metal bridge going towards Golden Valley. Cleared vegetation on the footpath around the far side of the reservoir.
30th August: Ironville lock 4, clearing Himalayan Balsam from lock 3 to lock 5 (railway bridge) and cleared the wall at lock 4 on the towpath.
10 volunteers, 70 hours including travel.
6th September: Ironville, Locks 3,4 &5 cleared vegetation and balsam removed a fallen Ash tree near the lock keeper’s garden.

18th October: Codnor Park Reservoir, removing wind damaged trees on the far side of the reservoir, which had fallen across the footpath.

25th October: Codnor Park Reservoir, removal of windblown and damaged trees on the footpath on the angling section, the bailiff closed some fishing pegs adjacent to this work.

1st November: Codnor Park Reservoir, clearing more damaged trees on the angling section, fishing pegs closed to allow this work.

8th November: Codnor Park Reservoir, clearing vegetation on the C&RT section on the footpath towards Golden Valley and removing wind damaged trees on the angling section.
8 volunteers, 42.75 volunteer hours including travel.
15th November: Codnor Park Reservoir, removing wind damaged trees on the far side of the reservoir.
6 volunteers, 46 volunteer hours including travel.
The total direct FCC work party for 2023, was 572 with 83 travel hours.
The total, including travel hours for 2023 was 655 hours.
There is a large amount of unrecorded work done by Malc Chisnall on the Codnor Park Reservoir area on behalf of Friends of Cromford Canal work parties, spotting potential or actual wind damage remedial work, sometimes doing the job, with friends in attendance, within hours of identifying the problem.
In addition: The Lock keepers garden at Lock 4 Ironville. 105.5 hours with 5 hours travel.
Shirley and Steve Bullock together with Carol Hartley have worked the lock keepers garden all year and the produce was donated to the Age Concern foodbank in Eastwood.
