A talk about hedge-laying
Hedge-laying – a talk by Derrick Hales who is a Champion Hedge-layer and a member of the Brailsford and District Ploughing and Hedge-cutting Society Hedge-laying Training Team. He has worked to bring members of wildlife, volunteer and conservation groups, agricultural workers, contractors and professional hedge-layers together on training courses.
Derrik started hedge-laying quite late in life, had a good teacher and worked his way up through the competition levels. Hedge-laying has been a major interest of his and he has had several articles published in journals and magazines.
The talk will cover history, the principles, the reasons – the ways, whys and wherefores – the styles, including hedgerow planting and maintenance.
Derrik will bring along a small selection of tools: and can discuss tool choices and for those interested some elements of tool manufacture.
Tea, coffee included in ticket price of £5.
