American Air Power in WW2

American Air Power in WW2

A talk by Anthony Laven

In May 1943, the Memphis Belle was the first B-17 Flying Fortress of the 8th Air Force to complete 25 operational missions. At that time the odds of achieving this were only 5%. A USAAF camera crew filmed the final, successful mission, and extracts of this film will be shown in the talk.

The Lady Be Good was a B-24 Liberator of the 9th Air Force operating from an airfield near Benghazi in Libya. The aircraft disappeared when returning home after a mission to attack the docks at Naples. In November 1958 a crashed aircraft was seen 450 miles south of Benghazi and found to be the Lady Be Good.
