Friends of Cromford Canal work parties:
Not a lot of FCC volunteer work party activity in this period due to work being done at Beggarlee, Langley Mill. We finished off clearing the area of the flood plain extension, pulling tree roots out and renewing a footpath that was very cut up and boggy.
Pinxton Wharf:
Wednesday 17th April
A work party was at Pinxton Wharf, litter picking and clearing and tidying up from fallen trees. Two bags of litter picked up. Large amount of strimming done along the edge of the walk towards the weir. 13 volunteers, 55.25 hrs, 9 travel hrs.
High Peak Junction
8th May
One group, consisting of four FCC volunteers and one other were compiling and measuring water levels and silt depths, in the marked areas between Aqueduct Cottage and Gregory’s tunnel. working from the small boat. Boat had to be man handled from Wharf Shed at High Peak Junction. A wildlife and nest survey, was conducted before entering on the water with the boat. 9.00am – 15.00 After the measuring operation, the boat was removed from the water and it was found that a hole had been taped up with duct tape. 4 volunteers, 24 hrs , 3.5 travel hours
Cromford, Lawn Bridge
In June, two separate work parties, 5th June & 12th June
Silt traps were dug out and some strimming was done at Stella, the dinosaur.
Access, with permission, to these sites was from through a residential property on the A6.
A fallen tree near to “Stella” was cut up by hand and disposed of, which took a long time

Whatstandwell
8th May
Clearing Himalayan Balsam. 4 volunteers. 24 hrs & 3,5hrs travel
Ambergate
5th June
Four volunteers were at Chase Road area, Ambergate, removing Himalayan Balsam.
4 volunteers, 20 hrs & 4.5 hours travel.
Total volunteer hours (including travel) from Friends of Cromford Canal work parties for April, May and June 2024, = 168.25 volunteers & 29.5 travel hours
